Well you stash crap to have it for later, not to build up influence really. There's a limit to how much junk you can have, forget the number, but I reached it when in high levels of Breakdown. This screwed me, because I was wasting influence trying to clean out the stash. For Breakdown especially, don't be collecting crappy 2x4s and shit like that. A stack of pills will count as one item, as will the stupid 2x4.
You just get maximum influence every day, based on your fame. You'll get more fame by leveling up the characters' skills. There were dudes bored waiting for Breakdown who would level every character to max, and end up with a giant influence pool every day.
