If you take away the narcissistic family angle (or make everyone in the family self-involved since it doesn't sound like anyone bothered to check up on her that often), then all you're left with is exploring a house and discovering your sister is a lesbian, which sounds awfully dull. Coming out the closet stories are like stories of religious de/conversion. They're incredibly important to the person telling it, but you have to be a good story teller to convey how life-changing the act really is. Video games rarely do intimate story telling like that well - see Bioshock Infinite.
