In case anyone was wondering, the Voice of El faction they added by Arbit 10/28/2012, 8:17pm PDT is totally unplayable and a Fuck You to catholics. It's pretty funny I must admit, but seriously unplayable. You can convert settlements but it costs you money and permenantly decreases the income of the settlement by a third, then that third is stored up each month and given to the Voice of El faction with the highest ranking bishop/pontiff at the end of year. There appears to be no advantage to doing this unless you like potentially giving your money to an AI player and paying for the privlege. You can also break seals which spawns friendly monsters in your terrain, but they're fucking terrible and you can't control them and sometimes a saint will spawn and run off with your units and there's nothing you can do about it. Saints of course have 3 HP and have no combat value besides their one damage punch. You can also pay to start the inquisition or crusades but it just spawns shitty stacks of units that will fuck off and do whatever they want. Finally, you can break the seventh seal, release the four horsemen of the apocalypse in the process, and start amageddon i.e. a bunch of giant insects will spawn all over the map and attack everyone's shit. Maybe some of your dumb wandering celestial lions will fight some giant mantis. No redeeming value except as an enemy faction, or as catholic catharsis.
