It seems like an okay game but I ended up having the problem with it that I seem to have with most strategy games now: The AI is moronic, so the game is easy and boring, but then you turn up the difficulty and the AI cheats and now the game is hard and boring, so you play online and then things are fun but now your schedule is tied to other people's schedules and for one reason or another that doesn't work for me at all. I haven't gotten to that third step with this game yet but I think I probably will.
This is exactly how I feel!
The extreme stupidity of the AI just pushed me over into the negative! column. I can have some fun with a stupid AI, but I can't have fun with an AI that insists on suiciding itself on me. What happened (and in general, what has been happening): If I leave a valuable resource unguarded or lightly guarded near their territory, it immediately sends over a small force to take it, regardless if I have an uber stack sitting around nearby. If I kill it, it immediately dispatches another one... and another... and another... until it runs out of commanders and loses! If it has enough troops to make an uber stack it will a) not challenge your uber stack and b) chop itself up into smaller stacks as it takes stuff and leaves about a quarter to a third of the stack behind to garrison stuff. It became particularly ridiculous when I had a citadel right next to city - he had a large stack of demon units that was probably more than a match for my big stack so I hole up in the city and think this is the end... but instead he took the citadel, left 1/3 behind, I killed that garrison by attacking from the city, then he turned right around and took the undefended city, left a 1/3, I killed it, and by this time his stack was pretty depleted. I killed it and that was his last commander. Then the remaining player did the same thing.
Awful.
And this is why I play RTSs against humans. |
