The comic IS the Citizen Kane of comics. I feel bad for anyone who walked into that movie with their date without them both already loving the comic. The existence of the movie is therefore kind of pointless, but not really -- I thought just about every performance was the work of a really talented individual. I never, in a million years, would have thought of the take Haley gave for Rorschach's final, "Do it!" but it's perfect, and better than the way he always said it in my mind.

Billy Crudup's vocal performance was perfect. Patrick Wilson, Matthew Goode, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Max Headroom were great. I think the movie was rushed, but it also had little bits that weren't in the source material, and when it WAS allowed to breathe it worked. When Jon teleports into the meeting and says, "I told you you wouldn't be the only one dressed up" and Janey takes a second and laughs -- man, that's a good moment.

(When Dan says, "Maybe we should agree on no drinking at meetings" and the Comedian genuinely laughs because Dan made a good joke, I don't know why, but that was also great. I guess in the same way that it would be cool to impress Spider-Man by being agile or Hank Pym by beating your wife, making the Comedian laugh at a joke is neat.)

I realize I am defending it as a well-produced literal adaptation of something in a medium it wasn't intended for. Which isn't what anyone else in this thread is talking about at all. But I think it succeeds as a comic brought to life.

(I never thought about how the lack of time for the prison shrink and vendor meant that the monster's appearance robs the movie of non-Rorschach deaths we'd care about. That's a great point.)

Oh, changing "republic serial villain" to "comic book villain" was fucking retarded, though.
