Mysterio wrote:
thinking he's the first person to ever crack human social behavior with lectures on monkey semen, sub-Freudian analysis, seduction artist garbage about how the Bhagavad Gītā is the secret to boning chicks, and other freshman psych material.
As I said before, I find the secular sacred far more pernicious than the religious, because the religious sacred status has the achilles heel of the supernatural, which can easily be toppled. The secular sacred, or "serious" ideas require a great deal more cunning to trap.
Herein the Mysterio I was responding to was seeking to silence me on a number of topics, including sexual monogamy, as brought up by the book "Sex at Dawn." I invited the mysterio to shoot my hypotheses down. Two days of silence. The Mysterio has no answer, nor has the mysterio likely investigated the reason why (s)he must devote its life in such an intimate way to this "Serious" idea.
Now it would be silly of me to expect any person to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the underlying justification for every belief it bases its actions on, but fortunately we live in the future and are all sitting at electronic brains connected to a worldwide network of knowledge, so an answer can be compiled in a fraction of the time it would have taken our elders.
Take "Sex at Dawn," which I would describe as a thought-provoking, but otherwise not very well written book. A simple google search pulls up an academic review that takes the book to task for claiming anectodal evidence as probative, as well as many other problems with the book. Also, a scathing critique by a polyamorous couple, and an entire blog entitled, Fuck Sex at Dawn. This is a debate I could very easily lose to the Mysterio.
But not even a single argument is flung back at me. The debate is refused out of hand because it's not Serious/Sacred. Like Martin Luther, THAT is the devil at whom I fling my inkpot!
But just as Martin Luther said that "Reason is the Devil's Harlot," appeals to social status/authority is the harlot to my devil. Note the tactics of the mysterio's shame attempt. I am accused of aspiring to a higher social status, that I claim to be "the first person to ever crack human behavior" on these various topics. This in itself is an incorrect statement just on the face of what I said, because I neither claimed to be the first, and also cited my sources. The mysterio then goes on to punish my behavior by attacking my own social standing, saying that such statements put me on par with a "freshman psych major." And even more telling, this individual attacking me posts as a mysterio, so as not to risk its own social status on the 'Trops in case my counterargument is stonger than expected. Not only are the merits of the case not discussed, I am threatened with social exclusion (excommunication?) should I continue to question it.
Whether such behavior is in defense of an authority that cannot be justified (in the case of religion) or simple intellectual laziness, it results in waste, sometimes to tragic levels, and I have no patience for it in the 21st century.
Or as Bill Burr summed it up brilliantly in that youtube clip you so angrily redacted, positive self-improving behavior is hidden and suppressed for fear that your friends will say, "What are you, a fag?!!" It's funny 'cause it's true.
THAT is my interest. Religion is only a portion of the greater problem. Now does my answer satisfy you? |
