A friend of mine recently suggested I try reading "Games People Play," a popular psychology book from the 60s. I take the book's talk of Jungian stereotypes with a shovelfull of salt, but its overriding premise I find compelling. The book says that modern society doesn't provide the intimacy people require (sexual intimacy, especially) so people subconsciously engage in dysfunctional patterns, or "games," that provide lots of emotional excitement to fill that void. Shades of the old parenting advice that children crave attention, no matter the flavor.
Games like "If it Wasn't for You," or "Let's You and Him Fight," or "Now I've Got You, You Son of a Bitch." Quentinbec was the perfect example of the "Kick Me" player, and I must admit feeling a pang of regret after he apparently got his life back in order and I could no longer take on the role of the kick-er.
I'm not sure the full scope of the game you're playing here, Zseni, as I suspect you're discussing these threads with third parties, but I've noticed over the years that every time I've played along cooperatively with one of your grand ideas, such as the Caltrops Master of Orion thread, the Lindsay Lohan poem competition in your Jedi forum, or this discussion of my belief structure here, you've always responded with something along the lines of, "No, you're not doing it right!" Even when what you're saying is patently absurd: "No, Mischief Maker! That's not what you really believe!"
