Got guilt-tripped into buying it since some people I know did and played it for a little while yesterday.
-The numbers flying don't get in the way of anything. It's not as gratuitous as Borderlands, at least not in the beginning because we don't have machine guns and stuff. Even still, I don't think it's going to ruin anything.
-The weapon degradation is starting to irritate me. There is no frantic feeling to it (for me) because I've seen about 5 zombies tops on-screen at once, so I'm not beating off (HEH) L4D level hordes here. Plus, in the beginning, weapons degrade fast as fuck. There's tons of things that can be used as weapons strewn about everywhere so you're never really lacking one, but once you get a couple good items and upgrade them it's annoying to have them break so quickly and have to fall back to scavenging shitty ones. Maybe as the game progresses the degradation will be slower, I don't know.
-They tried to make movement feel like you're actually attached to human legs, but it makes the game feel kind of sluggish and lurchy.
-I have no idea what they did with mouse sensitivity in the menus, but if you turn it up to get a fast cursor speed in the menus then in-game you'll spin 1080 degrees at the slightest touch. If you turn sensitivity down to normal levels for in-game movement, then you have to pick up and replace the mouse like 3 times to move it across menu screens.
-The aforementioned menu sluggishness seems to translate to camera movement when you're driving a truck. Looking around is really sluggish and disorienting.
So right now I guess my biggest problem is control issues. It doesn't quite feel like you're attached to your own body.
I probably wouldn't play this game single-player, but since multiplayer automatically makes everything better I'll probably end up playing through the whole thing at least once. |
