DOA is the definitive 3d button masher.
This is the crux, the fulcrum, the nexus and zenith of the misconception of DOA. Following "you can just button mash" is the conjoined twin of the DOA diss, "reversals are easy and over powered".
Watch this: You can't button mash because reversals are easy. Reversals are easy to stop button mashers.
It's as simple as that. Sure you could go through the motions of mashing and you will pull off lots of great looking moves -- you will also absolutely get reversed to death by any medium-grade player.
Maybe you and I just have different thresholds before something is considered a button masher. I don't literally mean that you can be an awesome DOA player by just hitting buttons at random without knowing what they do. Maybe you'll understand better if I put it another way: in DOA, all of the skill is in the player's fingers; none of it is in his brain.
That's hilarious, considering how painfully slow DOA can move compared to other fighting games. Maybe you have magic fingers that think for you. Also, I like this new "I don't like the way that word is defined, so when I make arguments using that word, I actually mean something totally different (if equally non-applicable.)" debate tactic you've defined. Next, call us all stupid for not understanding what you meant the first time.
You know what game gives you lots of time to think? War. That doesn't mean it's strategically deep.
But good job calling me out on redefining the term button masher, which according to dictionary.com means:
No entry found for button masher.
Whoops. |
