You might find it more approachable in Engrish translation as "Legend Of The Mystical Ninja" or something like that. It's not unplayable with Japanese gibberish all over everything, but you might miss some stuff. On the other hand, I think the English trans. cuts out the bit where, when you die, you have to avoid the boiling cauldron of HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL by slamming buttons.

In general though, yes, Goemon is fun, and chock full of all the bits of Japan that rise above all that deserves to be nuked in that unhappy nation. Please play it with a friend, who will get the incompetent snivelling ninja as his player character.

In Parodius 2, you can pilot Goemon as a shmup ship. Which is good, too.
