You know what though, do this too. When the rep sets up your phone, tell him you want him to transfer your contacts using the contact-transfer machine he has - you can say Cellebrite device if you like - rather than transferring them directly from your old SIM card. This is not true, but there is a very outside possibility that this will transfer your texts - very outside as in purely theoretical. When you transfer contacts using these Cellebrite devices, the final stage of the reading process says "Reading emails", and likewise the final stage of the writing process says "Writing emails". No one I work with has ever been able to figure out exactly what that means but the most reasonable guess is that it's transferring SMSes. The thing is I don't think I've ever seen texts cross over but it's probably worth it to have the guy use one to transfer your contacts just in case they do.
The reason I'm recommending this sneaky route is because I want you to avoid having to deal with someone trying to correct you about how the machines are not built to transfer text messages. In hindsight they may try to correct you about the contact hierarchies thing too though this is less likely, but it might be more effective to say that these texts were from someone who passed away and you'd really like them to use the machine on the outside chance they transfer. Of course be sure to do this at a corporately-owned location because agents are liars and thieves. Our customer service is good I promise; it used to be about industry standard until they started holding us to 100% customer satisfaction on the random phone surveys.
OK HOLD ON, I just went back and read the whole quote. The Apple guys won't have the Cellebrite device I'm almost positive. You can still take it to an AT&T store afterward if you like but the rep will definitely be more resistant; play the death card.
(You don't live in Colorado, do you? Because if you did, it would be shitty of me to complete this from someone other than you.) Looks like $89 a month for "unlimited" data, and free nights/weekends. Seeing how my T-mobile phone bill was $94 this month (regularly $45) due to all the roaming and text messages I sent in Scotland, getting the Internet for less than a bad T-mobile month is cool with me. Here is hoping they come in Caltrops-purple!

I'm assuming you mean the 450 min plan with unlimited texting; if you mean the 900 min plan be aware that texts are not considered data and aren't part of the plan at that price. Both plans have unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling and the 450 has an effectively-unlimited 5000 night and weekend minutes (the 900 min one has unlimited).
