Of course, after I wrote most of this I found this fucking thing that has almost all of the information I just greased into nested quotes from the books plus a ton more. I recommend the org chart and the glossary to start. FUCK!

Now what we need from you is a SITREP of all the ranks on this fucking show. It's getting important to know who has to listen to bullshit from who. It's also getting important that I can't have this discussion with my girlfriend many more times before going insane. You're Oscar Mike for this mission!
This is my point of reference for the faces/names actually present in the tv version.
In addition, we need to know if "Hitman 1" is Alpha team and "Hitman 2" is Bravo team.Of particular confusion are the ranks and hierarchy of "young competent do-gooder officer kid" and "duct taped windows guy" and "hogging the night vision guy" and "Captain America". For example is the protagonist, Colbert, the same rank as Captain America, but under a different commander?
Alright, this is going to be a bit confusing. Here's the unit hierarchy, and the people at each stage. Keep in mind that ANY officer technically outranks ANY enlisted, whether it's a Sergeant Major with 25 years in vs a boot Lieutenant or whatever else. In practice, officers tend to stay out of the way of any enlisted who doesn't work below or at a level directly above them. It's a chain of command/respect thing. I'm including the rank and pay grade so you get an idea of the disparity (eg an Officer-5 commands an Enlisted-9).
In charge of all of these is the Commanding General or CG, Major General (O-8) Mattis (callsign Chaos). That's 2 star general at the time.

1st Reconnaissance Battalion (r"Godfather")
-----Commanding officer is Lt. Col. (O-5) Ferrando, aka "Godfather (actual, but rarely referred to as such, probably due to his unmistakable voice)".
------------>His senior enlisted advisor is Sgt. Major (E-9) Sixta aka "Moostache"
----divided into 4 companies, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Headquarters & Support. The one featured in the show is Bravo Co, and the others don't feature much------
Alpha Company (Assassin)
------Commanding officer is Capt. Patterson (Assassin Actual), who is the "shit hot" (Ferrando's words) CO who consistently does well, is disgusted by his peer. Actual is shorthand for who's in charge at that level, only special characters like Colonels and the like get their own callsign----
Bravo Company (Hitman)
-----Commanding officer is Captain (O-3) Encino Man/Zero, aka guy who duct taped windows etc. He outranks everyone in Bravo Co., and works directly for "Godfather". His actual call sign is (you guessed it) "Hitman Actual"---
------------>Gunnery Sgt (E7) Griego, aka "hogging the night vision guy", senior logistics and tactical advisor for Bravo Co. As you can tell, he's as big a dumbass as his immediate superior. his nickname from the troops is "Casey Kasem".
-----Bravo Co. is divided into at least 3 platoons, as a result of being forced to adapt to the vehicles as opposed to their usual structures----
1st Platoon (Hitman 1)
---no info that I can recall----
2nd Platoon (Hitman 2)
---This is the main focus of Generation Kill, since that's who he rode with.----
---platoon commander (direct subordinate of Encino Man) is Lieutenant (O-2) Fick or "Hitman 2 actual", otherwise known as "young competent do-gooder officer kid"---
----------->His senior enlisted man/platoon sergeant is Gunnery Sgt (E-7) Wynn who has not yet featured extensively------
-----Bravo Co/2nd Plt. is divided into 3 teams for a total of 4 vehicles including the Lieutenant's vehicle----
2nd Plt/Team 1 Alpha (Hitman 2-1)
----the first vehicle, and the team leader is Sgt (E-5) Colbert or "Hitman 2-1 actual". He is subordinate to everyone listed above, but is the recon equivalent of a squad leader (they have teams instead of squads for a bunch of reasons) and has a fair degree of autonomy and experience considering where he actually stands in the food chain). It would be very likely that he has that position because he is the most senior of all of the team leaders, although recon tends to be more flexible about that relative to actual competence/experience ----
2nd Plt/Team 1 Bravo (I'm assuming that they are just using "Hitman 2-1 Actual" for Colbert's vehicle and straight "Hitman 2-1" for this one, hard to say though)
----Sgt. (E-5) Espera. He's Colbert's assistant team leader, mexican guy.-----
2nd Plt/Team 2 (Hitman 2-2)
----Sgt (E-5) Patrick aka Pappy (Hitman 2-2 actual). Pretty sure he was the trigger puller on the sniping, don't remember exactly though.---
----Sgt (E-5) Rudy Reyes, Patrick's assistant team leader.
2nd Plt/Team 3 (Hitman 2-3)
----Sgt (E-5) Sgt. Lovell (Hitman 2-3 actual).
3rd Platoon (Hitman 3)
---platoon commander is Capt. (O-3) McGraw, Captain America, "Hitman 3 actual". It's unusual for a captain to be a platoon commander, but sometimes I guess promotion dates and rotation dates get fucked up. Plus, he's clearly an idiot, so who knows how he ended up in a position below his rank.
So I hope that clears everything up.
