Of course, that one and Dark Queen of Krynn were the only ones I really enjoyed, the others were a little too dated by the time I got to them. Not so much in rule sets, although I'm sure that would have been a factor if I had ever been capable of making that distinction, but mainly the success of the overall interface/gameplay/storyline. Postgame content for masochists, new game + elegantly integrated via character saving/adding. The manuals alone were worth the price of admission.
Plus they were both very vulnerable to the item multiplication via character adding/robbing of items/discarding without saving, which saved me a lot of trouble in crafting my ultimate dual classed crew, and they freely integrated whatever stats you wanted your characters to have without any bullshit about the game's balance relying on it much. You were going to have a bitch of a time with a +3 or a +1. |
