This was a major problem in Bloodlines too. Especially in all the "run down building" levels where debris littered the ground, and ESPECIALLY in that damn condemned hospital.

The "bonking into NPCs" problem is the only gripe I've had about HL2 so far: in the cemetery level, you have to wait for Grigory to be way clear of each fence before you hop it, or you sort of float off into space and fall backwards. Annoying, because you're forced to follow him. It doesn't seem at all like you're colliding with him, it just seems like you sort of outsmarted the engine and are now bouncing.

Pretty minor gripe, considering how many physics things they do really well, but geez.
