See that? It fits into a standard fucking BUTTON HOLE. Genius. Plus a wide selection of knobs including a mini steering wheel. You're $200 away from a Sprint/Badlands cabinet.
Fitting in the button hole IS genius. I will give him that. Well, I mean that it's the sort of design that we can appreciate, in our thirties, like how old hackers appreciated the original Apple when they received it. I don't know how he's getting the resolution he claims without gears.
My brother bought me the Apache Controls push/pull spinner for Christmas and it's great. There is an enormous thread over at arcadecontrols.com with some of the most autistic people in the world talking about spinner resolutions. It doesn't surprise me to learn that the GroovyGear guy is trumpeting his advances in Arkanoid. Apparently there are three levels of gears on Arkanoid providing an enormous level of resolution, easily the most for any game anyone still talks about. I get that people have certain arcade games they are obsessed with - the GG guy likes Arkanoid in the same way I cream all over Discs of Tron. The problem is...
Arkanoid fucking cheats!
It is a rat BASTARD of a game. It is a miserable, skeeving, cheating bitch and you should only reconcile with it long enough to tie it to the bedpost and shit on its chest. Don't even get me started on the sequel. The Revenge of Doh is obvious: collision detection between your platform and the ball will simply be ignored whenever it suits that horrible game. The original is playable but filthy. Doh is a giggling guttercunt that should make you put boxing gloves on before playing because you'll definitely be punching it and why not cushion those blows.
I get that I'm crazy. I've got spinners in three forms around here -- I'm as mental as the rest of those yammering shut-ins on arcadecontrols. I am one of them and that's fine. But I at least let a game that does not cheat drag me down into a pathetic heap. Cheap-ass shit. HEY LET ME SHOW YOU MY CUSTOM ROAD RASH CONTROLLER
We're also rapidly reaching the point where there are more spinners in production than there were games that used spinners.
