So now of course I don't have to worry about ever returning this game to a shitty Blockbuster.
I've been playing the holy everlovin shit out of it since we got it. I'm about 60 hours in, Penelo (the Yuffie/Rikku of the game) is about 10 or 12 levels ahead of everyone else, I've maxed out all the quickenings already (which involves buying lots of licenses you'll never use on any character, ever) and every character has that whole southwest quadrant of the top half of the license board, the one with all the increase speed by 10% and magic(k) potency licenses.
This is the first FF game since either 2 or 3 (US) for the SNES where I actually really wanted to find every single end game secret fuckin thing I could. With this game, you can even tell what the names are gonna be because you will get the licenses for them first by about 10 or 20 hours. I will continue playing the shit out of this.
As for the story, which seems to really top the stories of the other games, it starts off pretty grounded and about where I am now it gets kind of heady in the same way FFX ended up, since all the FF games end up having the world drastically altered in some way. Except clearly there aren't going to be any gay kind of "Tilde and Auron have been ghosts this whole time" plot twists.
As far as worlds changing in the FF games, here's how that breaks down. Previous FF spoilers. At the end of FF2 there's world peace; FF3 the world is destroyed and all the espers die; FF7 some vague gay lifestream shit happens; FF8 who knows, some shit about time compression; FF9 no one played; FFX you personally murder every single esper or whatever they were called, after stopping some kind of endless cycle of every 10 years "Sin" returns and a summoner has to go on a big journey to sacrifice his or herself to surpress it again.
Another spoiler space for some irresponsible plot speculation, which probably won't be even close but I will black it out just in case I am right (psh as if). Unless the red miniskirt princess babe ends up being the end bad guy in the game. That would be pretty weird........ AND COOL 8) because I'd just have Penelo with whatever the ultimate end game katana is, and she'd fuckin run Ashe right through, twist it to open the wound, then pull it straight up and crack her in half. Then Penelo becomes the new emperor of the planet and single handedly kills all the espers and whatever super magic beings are involved in this world. Then she leads her new imperial army personally into a war with the brutal orks and chaos forces, using a katana that fires bullets, or a heavy bolter with a katana duct taped onto the end of it. |
