conflictNo has told me about 3 bands in our AIM friendship.
...which I recognize as probably worthwhile, if you are going to do some sort of thesis on music deconstruction, but I don't have time to listen to music that makes me think. I've got a full time job where I have to think all the time. I need music to be more visceral.
conflictNo: Also, have we talked about the Liars?
Sanitario666: No, whats the Liars? a band?
conflictNo: Yes
Sanitario666: They're making me think of The Killers, which I'm not enjoying so much.
conflictNo: They would KILL the killers, lol
conflictNo: Their latest is "Drum's Not Dead"
conflictNo: And "They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top" features a 30 min. song with the last 26 minutes or so being a repeating 7 second loop
conflictNo: Which is more awesome than it sounds
Sanitario666: I'm listening to them on MySpace now
conflictNo: "Let's Not Wrestle Mr. Heart Attack" on Drum's Not Dead is nice
Sanitario666: I'm listening to that now
conflictNo: If you can deal with the digeridoo or whatever that is
conflictNo: "this dust that makes mud" is the 30 minute song
conflictNo: and there you have it
...which I enjoyed! Who doesn't like Black Sabbath? conflictNo, a little bit, that's who. He saw these guys opening for Trail of the Dead, and didn't really have a fully formed opinion. I'm guessing he had conflictIn' feelings, trying to reconcile his brainy head with the cock head which was possibly hardening. A common but sometimes unexpected reaction to hearing live metal.
conflictNo: and these guys: www.swordofdoom.com
conflictNo: Who was expecting a metal band?
Sanitario666: I assume they were bad?
conflictNo: Well, no
Sanitario666: oh
conflictNo: I mean, I didn't realize they were singing about Dungeons and Dragons or whatever
conflictNo: But it's always good to see guys playing the hell out of their instruments
Sanitario666: They're proud of their gear.
Sanitario666: I can relate. It's hard to fight the urge to take pictures of your amps.
conflictNo: I think those very guitars were at the show
Sanitario666: I assume a band of that level doesn't have a stable of guitars.
conflictNo: Spending most of their money on pewter figurines
Sanitario666: There would be no money left after the Orange amps and cabinet.
3) "Mew" ...which really horrified me! It instantly took me back to seeing Fugazi in 1993, with opening band "Shudder To Think". Everything is going ok for a bit, and then suddenly WHAM, a dick is trying to get into your mouth! Through your ear!
conflictNo: Mew = Danish rock vikings
Sanitario666: noted
conflictNo: I don't know enough classic rock bands to make a decent comparison
conflictNo: pitchfork mentioned Queensryche
conflictNo: but maybe in an ironic way
conflictNo: whatever
Sanitario666: whoa!
Sanitario666: I might not like this.
conflictNo: watching or listening yet?
Sanitario666: I'm in the middle [of Zookeeper]. Hating it!
conflictNo: that song is much better when the song before it..turns into it..
conflictNo: I don't know the term
Sanitario666: segues?
conflictNo: I think so
conflictNo: blends?
conflictNo: the end of the previous track is the start of this one
Sanitario666: yeah I got it
Sanitario666: I'm going to listen to Earl Greyhound again to help me forget Mew.
conflictNo: Ray didn't like Mew either : (
Sanitario666: We don't like your fancy grad school listenin's |
