If you want to try a game that does not seem to age at all, Grim Fandango is your best bet.

Which is because of the fact the game was 90% uninteractive matte backgrounds, which in contrast were populated by jarringly low resolution characters comprised of no more than 3 polygons a piece. Maybe four. But of course they were skeletons, faces painted rather than articulated being an intentional design choice. It's art and an oh so clevAr imitation of that crazy mexican dead man's Christmas. Not you, you know, piss poor graphics.

Don't forget that the entirety of the game leads one down the Gabriel Knight variety of ridiculously overcomplicated adventure game tropes.

Example Courtesy GameFags wrote:

You notice when you turn the wheel, the tumblers move. You start with the bottom one, and when each tumbler turns a full revolution, the next one above it starts spinning also. Turn the wheel to the left, get it so that all tumblers are moving and then get the topmost one to have the flat side facing away from the wheel and towards the lock. Now, turn the wheel to the right and get the third tumbler (from the bottom) in line with the fourth tumbler. Turn the wheel to left again and line of the second tumbler, and finally the first. When this is done, use your scythe with the tumblers. Then, pull the lever and the door should open. Go inside.

Me? I'll take Zork and the Rubix cube.
