Everything you're complaining about here is part of the PnP game. It always struck me that mechs were a bit fragile for war machines given all the horrible shit that can happen to them. What's so great about ambulatory tanks again? But none of those problems are game breakers for me. It's still fun and not really that difficult.

Did you get the Pirate Moon expansion? Also, have you seen Mechwarrior 4, the expansion pack, and Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries all together for $20? I never played Mechwarrior 4 but I jumped on that deal. Hopefully I'll have time soon to give it a try.

I paid full price for MW4:V, MW4 Black Knight and MW4 Mercs each when they were released. I would say they are worth it. I am getting some entertainment out of MW3 because I have been itching for some MW games for a long time, but I would say MW4 corrects some serious problems that needed to be fixed. The big difference is that it's less of a pure simulation and (a little) more arcadey.

I did notice that thing about endo steel after I read a faq about the mechlab on gamefaqs. For some reason it's not explained anywhere in the mechlab.
