Lord of the Rings . . . CS Lewis . . . Tolkein . . . Disney
Disney apparently passed on LotR and is now regretting it. And this is in fact their solution to hopefully cash in on the craze, as it were. I didn't realize Lewis and Tolkien were also buddies. Interesting.
I personally couldn't care less about the religious overtones . . . unless they're more pronounced than I remember them being. They just seemed like great stories to me. Maybe I'll hate them if I read them again, though. :(
Chronicles in Amber
I'll give my permission for someone to make an HBO miniseries of this, but only if the first episode opens with the words "You should bid on Strength, it's the most important attribute."
Strangely, every time someone brings up Amber I think of...amateur porn and strippers. Then I think of Anime, for some reason. Like the weird philosophy and backstabbing would just fit in a TV series by the guys who did Full Metal Alchemist.

...mmm strippers.
Zelazny could have chosen a better name for his mythical kingdom. Although maybe Amber == stasis == Moorecockian "Law" or something. I liked how the Order guys have a rep for being crazy bastards and opportunists, while the Chaos guys were like Chinese royalty with rigid heirarchy and rules for every situation, including cutting people's throats. Zelazny even promotes Prince Random to King of Amber in the later books. Ooookay . . . |
