| Best guess for an inexpensive box that will run HL2 well:
Pentium IV, 2.4 GHz great price/performance and easy to overclock. if you can afford to slap it into a board based on the intel 875 Chipset, then score an 2.4c (800MHz FSB) since people are clocking them to 3.0GHz and running fine with standard cooling. Fuck AMD since for the same performance you will be robbed and raped. also: they suck. Asus, MSI, Tyan and Gigabyte, I only like those board manufacturers in that order. score a new 865 board if you can't afford the 875 but you can, since they are only $60-$70 more expensive and fucking worth it. At least 512MB of memory, the fastest your board specs allow. Obviously an ATI card, since the only nVidia card worth owning costs $500 and still won't be able to do FSAA (thank you Bob Violence). I would try to score a 9700pro card while they are still on the shelves since the 256MB 9800 cards are only like 19%-27% (depending on task) more impressive. Less angst and the iguana gland comment refers to you trying to expand your mind with alternative psychotropics. You frog licker. |
