I found the style of humour, especially with certain consistent characters like the vampire, somewhat tiresome. I still read most of the series because it could be very funny at times, but I sometimes wish it hadn't been trying so hard to be clever all the time.
The concept was utterly brilliant, and for the first, say, two or three graphic novels it was executed perfectly. (The plotline at Angelville was perfect.) After that, though, I'll agree that there were some problems, especially the two-dimensional and predictable soap-opera plotline with Tulip and Cassidy and the various indignities visited on Starr... a man that should have been almost infinitely dangerous and instead became a cartoonish (not comic, mind) villian.
On the other hand, the Saint was glorious throughout, and was the best thing about the concluding series. |
