...but calling it conservative is fucking retarded. Left of center would be fair and accurate, IMO. In fact, I think it's also fair to say most mainstream media tends to lean left of center, although that's relative to who's center we're talking about. I really don't want to get into a lengthy debate about what conservatives cal the left-wing media slant, but let's be honest. The democratic party(the American left) had control of congress for 40 years, which is a significant span of time, during which policies and ideas were influenced by that mindset. I'd say a large portion of today's prominent journalists came up during that period, why is it a surprise that their ideas were shaped in a similar fashion? Not all, but most. I defy you to name one network that was routinely accused of being too conservative before Fox came into prominence.
And about them, those lovable Fox anchors...
I think it's fair to say that the views and opinions largely expressed on that network mirror those of it's owner, one Mr. Rupert Murdoch. But wouldn't it just be crazy to suggest Ted Turner's views ever influenced CNN, if even for just a moment? In-fucking-sane, such thoughts. Election 2000? Say what you will about CNN's objectivity, just don't fucking say any of it was shown during the election. I watched it every goddamn day, and it might as well have been sponsored by the DNC. At least on Fox I know what parts are news and what is political pundirty as there is no attempt whatsoever to hide it. Fuck, half the time it's even entertaining, especially those TRUTH: The Anti-Drug ads that roll nonstop, and that disclaimer that reads "...we here at Fox believe in reporting the truth, not being a lapdog for dictators...". Fucking ouch. It's bad enough that somone would kick you in the balls in mid-goose-step, it's far worse when they're right.
Maybe I'm wrong. maybe I don't lean as far to the left as I'd like to or even sit as close to the center as I need to, maybe CNN is really more conservative than I've been led to believe. It's just curious that the criticism of President Clinton was pretty light in their reporting, at least when compared to the Bushes. Consistancy is essential for credibility, and Bernard fucking Shaw shedding that poingiant tear as Al Gore concluded his concession speech...well, I guess that was consistant with the previous 8 years. But yeah, I'm sure Europe considers all of our media outlets to be fascist, except perhaps the New York times.
