Actually, my point was that the Swiss benefit from every fight, and are very adept at laundering money. Why is it that every dictator has a Swiss bank account? Why is it the Swiss dont care where the money comes from?
Another case in point- OPEC was the idea of Swiss bankers, who pitched the idea to the Middle Eastern leaders with the caveat that all the money gained by the increased profits be held by their banks. They also held money from Nazi war criminals, as well as African leaders who were protecting profits for DeBeers.
So I wouldnt exactly say the Swiss are good guys because they are neutral. I would say they are more inclined to help protect the immoral (or at least their money) under the banner of neutrality.
As for the matter of 'theyre only killing people', thats kind of a foolish stance. Are you saying people wouldnt die if Saddam were left in power? Its really funny how most people protesting the war have this concept that the rest of the world is like white suburbia. Sorry man, but Iraq isnt like Glencoe. If somebody who works with the Iraqi government doesnt like you, it wont be too long before you are visiting one of Iraq's most exclusive 'resorts'. Talk to a few Iraqis, talk to some Kurds. I dont know hundreds of them, but I know some. They are NOT Saddam's biggest fans, and every one of them has either lost a family member, or was friends with somebody who was killed. So you arent exactly defending Mother Theresa over there.
You want another amusing story? Go talk to (or read an article from) some of the 'human shields' who went over there. All the ones that Saddam didnt force to stay there pretty much came back, and they had some pretty interesting tales to tell (having seen the people first hand). And I will give a minor spoiler- they arent 'pro-Saddam', 'anti-war' anymore. There was one story a prospective human shield told about a man he met. The fellow said he was happy the Americans were there, and said that even if his house were destroyed, or he died, he hoped we would kill Saddam. He told this guy about how his son was taken for no reason in the middle of the night, and so he sold everything he owned to get a bribe so his son could be released. They took the bribe, and a few months later they sent the pieces of his son home in a box.
Isnt that a cheerful story? Imagine if you were that guy, how you would feel, and let me know if you would care if Saddam or some foreign corporation owned the oil fields. Since that guy (or me, or you) will never see a penny of that oil money anyway, its kind of just intellectual masturbation, isnt it? |
