Blair's speech was a simple logical progression, one that had a purpose and simply explained the reason for war. There isn't a imbred slack jawed country bumpkin from Utah to West Virginia, or Texas for that matter, that could miss its finesse and point. Bush and his administration on the other hand have acted like the war is a foregone conclusion, which it may be, but he has been negligent in sowing and maintaining the support he had to begin with. Almost all communication from the administration has been handled in a third rate way, from the always embarrassing gaffes from President Bush, the ham-fisted ineptness of Powell's plea to the UN, to the magically lackluster lock step of Rummy, Ari, and Condi. If there isn't any substance to what you say all people can talk about is how you say it, and that is what people around the world are talking about. Bush has never made the case for war, just assumed in the rightness of it. I would say that makes him more wrong than Blair. |
