| On one hand, fuck Gamestop. Their upselling and preordering bullshit made me stop shopping there 20 years ago.
On the other hand, it used to be the Electronics Boutique at our local mall and THE destination for all games for 40 miles. It opened when they were still selling Commodore 64 games, with two entire walls dedicated to PC games (and another half for the glut of kookie productivity shovelware of the 90s). Every Christmas and birthday made a trip there. Saw four console generations pass by. Staring up in awe at the Powerglove, the Miracle Piano System, the $650 Neo Geo, even the Virtual Boy. The brief pseudo 32+ bit war between 3DO and Jaguar. But most of all, I remember all the clerks looking like middle school math teachers in shirts & ties. What a great time before Gamestop hired nothing but greasy Simpsons Comic Book Guys. Caltrops, were YOUR pre-Gamestop software stores staffed by shirt & tie math teachers? |
