He didn't even technically direct it, only produced, though his fingerprints are all over it. I implore you to try his Cary Grant trilogy (Bringing Up Baby 1938, Only Angels Have Wings 1939, His Girl Friday 1940) before you write him off entirely. (If you're more of a film noir guy, his Bogart duology - To Have and Have Not 1944 and The Big Sleep 1946 - can't be beat.)
