I do not, and not to be close-minded but likely never will, accept any kind of spirituality of any kind. My personal belief is that we're all merely molecules engaging in complicated versions of what you learned in Chem 101 - and a lifetime's worth of Jesus has done nothing but serve to all but convince me on this point. You might say that Lateralus 'really fucking aggravates me', because if I want to listen to that kind of shit being shoved down my throat I'll AIM my sister.
To have it coming from Tool, a band formerly SO VERY, VERY FAR on the opposite side of the spectrum . . . it kinda blows, you know?
--SB
There is more to spirituality then the “Jesus Vs Satan Vs Jesus/My spells are better then your spells/wheel of Karma†crisco that seems to clog the arteries of inspiration in most bands that tackle the "spirtual" side of existance. What kicks my ass is that Tool did some homework on whatever freaky shit they have incorporated into their trippy, deism/ we are all divine and this reality, this meat suit is not a prison but rather another lesson on the spiral. blah blah blah. more interesting then anything Celtic Frost had to say certainly.
I may be closer in mindset with Bill DungsHSWroman regarding being in a transcendent/ transforming period in my life where Lateralus seems to be speaking directly to me.
Did a glorified AIBO create you? Sure, why not. Did one create me? No. Morality and Social responsibility-does it come solely from the priority of needs? SB I am guessing you really Love V. and would put large, jagged holes into anything that would threaten her. Certainly at the expense of your own safety and comfort. Are all those complex emotions at play simply the evolution of our primal desire to perpetuate the species? Is that all biochemical? Biomechanical? Do those words explain the absence of a spirit or are those words more concise definitions in our exploration of it?
I don't know, maybe Maynard does. Also: they still rock.
