I don't think Steve Carell is an idiot or a misogynist, despite massive amounts of video evidence suggesting that he is both. No one things that: he was playing a character on a TV show. That's obvious to everyone.

It gets a little trickier when people are playing a character on The Internet and the name of that character is [their name]. There are enough actual monsters out there that it probably is too much to expect out of people: to do the research and figure out that no, this guy is pretending, unlike the rest of these assholes.
