Since it doesn't matter what ideas we throw in, might as well have the single player campaign involve a long stretch where you have to take over an entire planet, territory by territory, in a gargantuan sandbox, like Just Cause 2 (most likely not nearly as big though).
You can stealthy infiltrate (with your personalized cloaking device) an enemy stronghold, free prisoners or blow up their weapons manufacturing plant that would be a huge building that you plant explosives on the weak spots or explodey tanks or fuel dumps, and then run out as it blows up, and it never just fades to cutscene, you can literally blow it up with you inside it, there's no restrictions because it's all fully dynamic sandbox. You would not be playing one set protagonist, you'd be playing individual soldiers, so if you die, you just start over as another solider. There will be areas where you jump into a vehicle (VTOL, mech, tank) and do fights there among other enemy vehicles of the same type. Full on helicopter/VTOL fucking dogfights using the same flying physics and controls that you'd use in multiplayer. There will be other areas where you're just meant to hold off enemy army advances, get in the turrets and spray at the enemy VTOLs and tanks and shit. If you lose, the enemy takes that territory and you have to spend your next life fighting to take it back. If the enemy takes all of the territories you lose the game and have to start over at the beginning of act 2.
When you take over a controlling amount of the planet, you win, and you move on to the next act of the game. This planet control thing would be like act 2. Then act 3 would be a little more linear. It starts with you driving your jeep through a huge valley, as above you a titan gets fucking obliterated, and giant chunks fall (dynamic physics/cinematic physics) and you have to drive out of the way to avoid them. Realistic consequences for not dodging the titan parts, they aren't just for show like in some dumb EA game, if you run into them you're dead.
Act 1 would be on board a titan that's in space. Your job is to raid it for supplies, so you go around the cargo hold blowing away enemy troops and setting beacon tags on the crates of goodies and then blowing out the cargo doors so everything gets fired out into space (you get XP for tagging, and for each crate that gets successfully picked up you get a huge XP bonus). |
