But really, in LOTR, the intentionally ridiculous elf surfing was there to be countered by Gimli going "fag NT" thereby serving as comic relief, while in Hobbit it's there in a genuine attempt at coolness.
I think the LOTRses are great, probably the best possible adaptations of some very fucking boring books. I was all into that satanic fantasy rpg thing when I was a kid and read tons of books like that, but had to throw in the towel halfway through Two Towers. Fuck that shit, gimme a phone book instead. Or the Bible.
Hobbit is the other way around. I think they said in the ½ in the bag review that you could probably make a pretty good 90 minute edit of the whole Hobbit trilogy, which sounds plausible. |
