| In an interview, the writers said that killing off Kirk was the results of a communications error. They wanted to do a Superman moment where Kirk and Picard are flying together in the Nexus and "Kirk flies" got miscommunicated as "Kirk dies" so they set to work on killing Kirk off. By the time the mistake was caught, it was so far along they figured fuck it.
What a colossal failure of fiction when it turns out most of the plot points came from different committees not communicating with each other. |
