I think I've been misinterpreted in this thread by Mischief Maker 09/27/2012, 8:57pm PDT This is the trailer that set off my ire: How do you differentiate yourself from the billions of other arkanoid clones? Make yours the ugliest! Also give yours a really shitty framerate as a "tribute" to the NES. Yes, there were several designers who did heroic things with the hardware limitations of the NES. Those hardware limitations are gone. I don't mind "retro" graphics if the designer has a clear aesthetic they're going for, and some have done some incredible things with the limitations of yesteryear. I have not seen a single modern game that went for the "look" of the NES where the effort was worth it. Meanwhile, Kenta Cho clearly can't draw, yet he's created one of the most uniquely beautiful games I've ever played in his Gunroar (Play with the "-luminosity 100" shortcut tag) Just a bunch of transparent squares creates a dazzlingly beautiful stained-glass effect. Hey game designers, stop copying the NES and start copying Kenta Cho! ICJ seems to have a specific aesthetic he's going for, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for the moment. Then
