This kind of killed me. It's a thread where Bard's Tale fans are chatting about how they'd "derive" the source code or something. Becky Heinnman replies that she still has the source:
I dunno, any time I want to review the source, I access my perforce server and look at the BTI, BTII and BTIII directories.
It has things like labels, comments and programming notes, plus as an added bonus, all my complaints for the GS/OS, C64 and Apple ][ gotchas I had to program around.
I met her a few years ago at her home; apparently I was unwittingly next to the Bard's Tale source code!
One of the projects I would really like to do is gather up the source code for old games like this and preserve them somewhere. Sure, it lets people port them to other systems, but it also preserves them historically. I wonder how many devs like Becky keep the source code to the stuff they've worked on over the years, corporate policy be fucked?
