Is it possible that the you are witnessing a subset of the Russian internet that is full of retards?
They have that kind of game on the real internet too, y'know. It's just that you know enough to avoid that part of the real internet.
Oh yeah it's definitely the retard part of the internet. I don't know enough to understand, much less dip into, the potential goodies out there. Seriously, just reading cyrillic takes up a big fat chunk of my concentration. Russian Caltrops would blow right over my head even worse than regular Caltrops does.
Shit is still different, though. Like blog duels.
I have the same problem cruising for music, too. I'm able to find things like this sort of compilation of top radio hits and similar russian rap/hip-hop compilations. But I don't know how drill down into anyone's list of recommendations - both because the tools would be different and because I wouldn't know how to read "this is a rare, fantastic album full of gritty funk" if I were staring at it. And the music categories are a little different in non-obvious ways. Like - russian rap is sometimes just a dude telling a story over music. I was lucky just to blunder into some cool dual-language blogs that cover soviet disco and the like.
It's not just the language barrier, it's the culture and context barrier. I have to start from scratch like a twelve year old making a hotmail account for the first time.
As for the games, SHUT UP IT'S NEW TO ME.
I don't watch movie trailers in English because I don't care about movies. But it's fun to do in Russian - two-minute long lessons in how to talk about cops and failed relationships and shit!!! Mostly I watch trailers for the Soviet-era movies that my friends tell me about. But the other day I was watching this one trailer for this cool gritty-looking cop flick and it was just the sort of movie I had imagined there would be DOZENS of in Russia and the production values were awesome and there was this cool gritty-looking lead character and all of a sudden I was like
do Moscow cops really wear that hat? that's the same hat London cops wear!
then
...there are double-decker busses in Moscow....?
it was a trailer for Blitz.
