so

trying to... move into the russian internet.
guys the trolling opportunities are really amazing when you have the functional literacy of a first grader. for example, to say on the official dima bilan forum: "dima was singing much better at the 2006 RusMTV music video awards than in the 2007" all of dima's tv performances are lip syncs to album tracks, straight up. 100%. Trolls like this are dead to the advanced language speaker but still very fresh to the novice. One's stupidity is a benefit.

but I'm still really scurred of making the leap.

even though I already have the completely disposable online identity. even though the NORMAL TENOR of comments on, say, russian celeb articles is legit on the order of "dima isn't interested in his new girlfriend. he is a specialist in boys." RPing in Russian with Russians I know who are ALSO English-fluent - that's cute. That's like - congrats on your bonus points, awesome American. But to willingly dive into being a fucking retard among native speakers is very hard.

I have a lot of fun shit to say about the russian internet. it is VERY DIFFERENT than the american internet. the thing that sticks out to me singlehandedly is that - the sort of bullshit kill-time minigames you play on yahoo or whatever... those are ALL competitive/head-to-head on the russian internet. If you play fucking arkanoid, it is head to head. Genially, non-demandingly, but yes: you are playing with three other people and your score is adjusted based on who finishes first and last. This sort of casual social contact is fucking everywhere. To the autist-puritan american, it's faintly shocking; after a few weeks, though, I started to miss it when I didn't have random internet strangers to rub elbows with.

Still scurred tho.

I have traded for so long on eloquence. It's tiresome or not as you chose but always something I have the most intimate control over. I kiss that goodbye the instant I step onto a Russian forum. It's not even "taking a chance." It is 100% definitely the case that I will be misunderstood, and I still haven't figured out how to laugh about that in any language.

Also russian video sites will give you the full correct set of embed tags for posting videos on LJ.
