Also worth noting - these clubs are frequently part of a constellation of yakuza rent seeking operations. Girls will go to the host clubs and build up a tab they can't pay off. The club forwards their names to a predatory lender, which fronts them some money and then starts "collections". Once they're sufficiently shaken up, the host club/lender forwards the girl to a soapland pimp who puts them to work. All the stages of the operation are integrated, and the explicit point of commencement is the host club.
