So this is all my fault. When Jsoh blames the left for covering up slaves in Niger, and I say "yeah, the left's pro-slavery sucks" and then Sean Penn, played by you, says "Listen, I know you're joking but the left really does suck because even if Niger isn't leftwing, that's a good example of leftism", then clearly the problem is me? I can think of two other problem people in that chain of events.
As for ideal commie and ideal rightwing, China and Singapore are terrible benchmarks. Ideal communism wouldn't be corrupt and oppressive, just as ideal rightwing (libertarianism?!?!) wouldn't have so many rules as to make spitting in public illegal.
I wasn't addressing my "libertarian utopia"; I was responding to your challenge. Arguing exclusively in ideals when convenient (ie to dismiss real world examples that destroy the credibility of your ideology) is a waste of time.
But we are arguing ideals and fiction. The leftwing Niger government and their love of slavery or at least their love of cover up slavery instead of trying to end it. We have no way of getting to the bottom of that because we don't know anything about Niger. My plan was to point out that the left, AS A CONCEPT, would work against slavery, so surely "the lEft" cannot be blamed for Niger's slavegate. Your plan was to point out how communist countries result in dictatorships, while ring wing countries don't have slaves. Both give us nothing on Niger.
Since we have no other slavery examples that come to mind, (except of course the right wing early America, BUT WHATEVER), we have to make abstract comparisons. You're right about it being a waste of time, though. Are you aware this is an internet message board?
I even gave you the easy bye of Chile, which should have raised all sorts of hackles as it did at Qt3 once
I'm suprised that my hackles were not raised by Chile! |
