Caltrops - Cornerstone - now you can craft portals to hell

It would be supercool to just discover a portal to another world, while wandering around in the mines in an ordinary way. I guess he added zombie nests that sometimes appear in caves, or maybe they were always there--I ran into one and it was an awesome surprise (although it would have been more fun if the zombies hadn't killed me and scattered all my stuff to who-knows-where, rendering the game tedious again). I was trying to build up the proper equipment to be able to build a portal to "the Nether", which he added on Halloween. To do this, you must arrange obscure items in an obscure way that almost nobody would ever discover on their own. And if you don't happen to have the items on hand, then you must spend hours grinding for them. Well so much for drama. :(

I gave it a shot but couldn't keep up the motivation long enough to finish. So I turned to YouTube, and found only one video of the Nether that made it look exciting--in the others, the people generally get out into the big open areas, where it is revealed that the Nether is basically just like regular Minecraft, except with cacodemons. The trouble is that you don't get a chaingun--fighting monsters is not much fun when your weapons are all clumsy and fragile and you have to build them from scratch. Minecraft needs more kinds of dynamic blocks, not more ways to get killed! But it's not even in beta yet, so who knows.
