Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (***) Pros: WW2 action in 2008. The U.S. Army missions are incredible and action packed. Highpoint of the game is a nuclear detonation. Cons: The SAS missions are boring. Game gets boring real fast after the nuclear bomb goes off and turns into a generic corridor FPS. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (**) Pros: Red Dawn in Washington D.C., more nuclear explosions Cons: Destroyed a game studio, more boring SAS missions, finale is the same as MW1, only on a river STALKER: Call of Pripyat (****) Pros: It's a STALKER game with new areas Cons: Less scary than a STALKER game should be. Supreme Commander 2 (****) Pros: A streamlined, non-crashing SupCom game for the rest of us. Makes purists shit their pants with rage. Cons: Makes purists shit their pants with rage, guaranteeing SupCom 3 will be a regression. C&C: Red Alert 3 (****) Pros: Pure camp. Co-op single player campaign. Cons: Retarded co-op AI that doesn't rebuild after losses makes me wish I just got control of both bases instead. C&C 4: (*) Pros: Joseph D. Kucan in the cutscenes Cons: Everything else Dawn of War II (**1/2) Pros: Awesome multiplayer. Single player wargear and terminator armor. FOR THE EMPEROOOOOOR. Cons: Single player missions are 50$ sodomy. Relic is terrible at balancing and if you don't know the 3 strategies in multiplayer or enjoy playing Orcs you're screwed Dawn of War II Chaos Rising (***) Pros: Early access to Terminator armor and Space Hulk missions bring back nostalgia Cons: Final boss, multiplayer still shit Starcraft II (****) Pros: Everything Cons: Finished the campaign. Single player custom campaigns please! Alien Swarm (****) Pros: Fun top down alien-killing 4-player gameplay, begging for an X-Com mod Cons: Requires 3 other non-stupid people, makes me miss L4D's random server-finder for smoother game-finding experience Batman: Arkham Asylum (***) Pros: Fun riddler collection game with upgrade point rewards, awesome combat, dropping from ceilings and hanging criminals from gargoyle statues, Mark Hamill as Joker Cons: You'll probably stop playing halfway through since it's so exhaustingly redundant, and the bosses are unimpressive Crysis Warhead (***) Pros: More Crysis action without the stupid level in the alien ship Cons: Anti-climactic ending Empire Total War (***) Pros: Musket-fighting armies, cannons, and colonial white privilege Cons: Stupid AI makes it like playing RISK by yourself. You'll never get up the tech tree unless you're France or England. Borderlands: (***) Pros: Doesn't take itself seriously, cool weapons, visual style Cons: Boring story you don't care about by the time it gets going, you'll probably quit halfway through, sucks to play solo Dragon Age: Origins (****) Pros: Baldurs Gate 3, rips off the plot of RR Martin's Song of Fire and Ice, huge sequel potential Cons: Play a Dual-Wielding Rogue. Wizards aren't balanced and two-handed Warriors suck. Specializations mostly suck aside from Templar, Duelist, and Spirit Healer Mass Effect (****) Pros: Star Control II, Deus Ex, and KOTOR in one package Cons: Rover missions, worms Mass Effect 2 (***) Pros: Streamlined Mass Effect, more action, no buggy rides, you get to make out with Tali Cons: Transition to percentage-based upgrades means levelling is pointless, weapon selection sucks, story raises more questions than it answers, less atmospheric, impossible to powergame, money is tight, levels are dull corridor-crawls, still don't get to see Tali's face Fallout 3 DLC (**) Pros: Mothership Zeta, Operation Anchorage, Broken Steel Cons: The Pitt, Point Lookout, ending without Broken Steel Prototype (**) Pros: The game before the Elizabeth Greene boss Cons: Stopped playing at the Elizabeth Greene boss, easier to play with an XBOX controller World in Conflict (****) Pros: Red Dawn RTS. Good story, fun single player campaign Cons: Dull multiplayer, uses the kill streak reward system from Modern Warfare, no sequel possibility World in Conflict Soviet Assault (*) Pros: Six new single player missions Cons: 40$ for six new single player missions, no new units XBOX360: EndWar (**) Pros: Poor man's World in Conflict, decent multiplayer Cons:Poor man's World in Conflict, Story exists only for the tutorial missions, boring point-capturing gameplay, other side can drop a nuke on you when they're losing (?!) Red Dead Redemption (****) Pros: It's awesome Cons: Ending is unawesome Final Fantasy XIII (*) Pros: It's on the 360 Cons: It blows. Paradigm system sucks (switching paradigms every five seconds is NOT FUN), lack of free roam, lack of ability to grind levels (level progression is associated with story progression) makes boss fights always a pain Prince of Persia [2008 remake] (****) Pros: An awesome remake, fun platformer with cool sword fighting scenes, the choreography between the Prince and Elika was really well done, you can hit on the female character at almost any time while just standing around Cons: Makes purist faggots shit their pants. No chance of a sequel. |
