there's finally enough stuff to grab that I did a paragon reroll and I've been popping into new missions as I build my team, like it ain't no thing.
the formalwear-and-party spy mission was definitely cute, and it's nice that they're trying something new, but the most fun I've had is with the reimagining of ME1's planet lander missions: the hammerhead hovercraft.
the physics of how it behaves will be instantly recognizable to players of the first game, but they've tipped it over to being fun by adding the jump jets, which sometimes do double duty when they're combined with environmental elements like steam jets. just having some 3-dimensional map exploration -- without the fly-on-the-wall awkwardness of the lander -- is a ridiculously enjoyable bit of gameplay. it can be argued that every game is a platformer on some level, and the jumpjets barely abstract that, yet I didn't care -- I really got off on leaping from rock platform to sinking rock platform on a river of magma.
on top of the fun of flying the hovercraft, the biggest mission chain where you use the hammerhead is Project Overlord, and man. it's a good one. a somewhat predictable, but very creepy story, with some genuinely suspenseful moments and good jolts, especially if you let the sound design get to you. highly recommended.
oh, also. if you make a brown-skinned shepard, make sure to wear gold, for the easter-egg "assless chaps" armour.
