For small differences in RPM, cache size and sophistication of the drive electronics will overwhelm seek-time differences. Have look. Then, consider that modern 5900s are cheaper, effectively silent and use 2/3s the power of a 7200 (in a stack of four, it's the difference between passive cooling and an extra fan). SSD for programs + 5900(s) for media is a killer combo.

I think your 3Gb/s underline was just a brain fart or something, since no extant drive has a 6Gb/s interface. No mechanical drive can saturate even a 1.5Gb/s link. The best SSDs are just baaarely grazing the limits of 3Gb/s and only on huge sequential reads. ALSO, integrated storage chipsets are usually mediocre and I doubt those new 2-port "6Gb/s" parts can deliver anything of the sort. USB 3.0 is worth seeking on a new mobo; SATA 6Gb/s is not.

Getting to your recommendations proper, there's good contrast between yours and mine. I won't argue brands -- the difference in failure rates between premium and B-list is probably just a couple of percentage points, putting the weighted cost of lower reliability at a couple of bucks (depending on what arbitrary dollar value you assign to the inconvenience of failure). I hate troubleshooting and mail-order RMA, so I pony up. As to everything else:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965;
i5-750 is $19 more, -30W idle power consumption, +10-20% on every benchmark. Powered up 24/7 and paying 12 cents per kWh, it will take six months to recover the $19. Since it burns less power, you may not even need a new
CPU cooler:
On Fussbett's sayso, I always use the stock one. Looking at charts of temp readings, you get a solid drop from switching to a square rad parallel to the rear case fan (such as Coolermaster Hyper 212, $30), and diminishing returns as you pile on heatpipes, aluminum mass, and fans.

Video: ATi Radeon HD 4890 1GB, the cheapest you can find.
I picked the cheapest thing that got 60fps in L4D-high. You've probably thought more about this one than I have.

PSU: Corsair 850HX.
Two hundred dollars! It takes about $2k in parts to get the PSU calc to recommend anything over 600W.
