Okay I can't just switch, I have to go to the blasters in each hand and equip "nothing", then go back and equip a sword in each. Can't switch from two weapons to a two-handed one without unequipping each of the two first. Does it just let you automatically switch out instead of unequpping everything first?

Yeah you equip two different sets of weapons and there's a button to switch them.

- Blasters = useless. Can I please just blast people instead of prancing around with tinfoil swords?

You spend a lot more of this game fighting without lightsabers. By the time I got to the point where I had 3 Jedi and enough lightsabers to go around, they kept getting in each other's way. The combat areas can be very narrow and filled with obstacles, which the idiot pathfinding can't traverse properly...this turns out not to be a bad thing, you end up with a more balanced group just in the name of running through the combats more efficiently.

- Worthless party members. Do you get the chance to use everyone, or at least give you room to use who you want instead of having jedi be better no matter what?

Well I guess technically you can have a 3 jedi party and still use blasters and such, I did consider it. I think that the extra characters are due to these games actually being 2 games, the light path and the dark path. So the extra characters for one are not the extra characters for the other.

- Preaching? Do you have to put up with endless dialog on the evils of slavery and class division?

The Proletariat Strikes Back. Well not really. The only babbling comes from Ayn Rand this time around.

- Designed for low self esteem nerds desperately wishing for an imaginary girlfriend? Everyone in KOTOR can't stop going on about how OMG your character is magically the best ever at everything without trying, like Matt Damon and wow you're so amazing (actually I think I know why it turns out this way, thank you very much, GameFAQs). Also without trying is melting Bastila's thighs by magically having some force connection with her and she can't stop thinking about wow how amazing your mute avatar is.

You still have the official Wheel of Time "every chick wants you" problem. I think, however, that you've mistaken the imaginary girlfriend thing for the romantic interest thing, which is a necessary element of storytelling. Whoever wrote these two games read their Campbell pretty carefully.

re: sameness. Is there enough new stuff to make it worth buying at full price? Sounds more like an expansion pack from what I hear.

I would wait, but not until the thrid one comes out. Let the price drop to $30 or so.

Angry Rant:

This game is built, like the first one, on a lot of the same code as Neverwinter Nights. That explains why the three character party is so weird, the pathfinding is designed for 1+npc.

What it does not explain is why they didn't also bring the GDI from NWN over (in fact, they did, which is how they made the sequel, but they didn't release it). I asked this question once and someone said it was because lucasarts said no or whatever, but if they released the dev tools, this thing would have a mod community that dwarfed Counterstrike and NWN combined. Can you imagine the podracing tracks, shooting galleries, weird starship and character designs you'd get out of that? Not to mention just basic storytelling changes, the whole second trilogy shows how much interest there is in Star Wars stories, and how hard it is to tell those stories no matter how much money you have. It's time Lucas let this one roam free.
