Once I really sunk my teeth into the combo system, it became abundantly clear that now if I wanted to get SSS rankings I MUST do the super sword sweep (stand still going HUGE HUGE HUGE while holding down the attack button, then release and kill a line of weak enemies instantly), the danse macabre (single-button-mashing-autocombo), or some enemy specific bullshit quick kill (killing the lightning lizards using Royal Guard, LAME!)
I'm starting to think DMC3's only letting the player have access to two sword sets and one style at a time was a design flaw like a fox, since they couldn't guarantee a player would have a specific moveset at any time, all moves had equal opportunity to boost your style rating to SSS, giving more flexibility for the player.
I really don't get why everybody gets such a huge stiffy when they say the designer of DMC_1_ gets involved in these games. DMC1 opened the door, but in many ways it was an incredibly limited game that has since been outdone by superior followups. |
