Yes, but like Japanese games, it just makes you put up with occasional badness that can only be overcome with ridiculous skill or luck in return for generally great gameplay. I just find the combat really engaging and rewarding. It makes it all worth it, for some of us. But I think you established long ago that games that have "hard" as a feature are not your bag.
