I mean objectively it mirrors Fallout in a lot of ways, and I draw a lot of blanks wondering why it's on the polar opposite end of the fun spectrum. The character creation that appears super deep but is actually shallow as hell? The forcing you into one niche role since magic and technology cancel each other out (so it ends up being either a piss poor Fallout clone with guns or shitty Diablo clone with swords/spells)? Using the same attack spell over and over again? Getting some of the best weapons and armor in the game right away (fire ax, air sword, mechanized platemail) and not having any new loot to look foward to? Waste of time random encounters? Pointless, confusing, and ugly wilderness screens that you could potentially use to travel between towns instead of the fast travel map? Story dungeons taken straight out of Diablo with no alternate non-combat solutions? Said story dungeons being ridiculously fucking hard for that point in the game (fucking ore golems for the very first dungeon?)? Said story dungeons completely fucking you over if you didn't go with a combat character? Agonizingly slow power advancement that discouraged diversity? Running slow and jerky? Multiplayer consisting of a single broken and buggy scenario (that hits you with deadly poison attacks right away with no means of curing them)?
Which was it?
Kohan was identically boring. I have no idea if Kohan 2 is any better or not, but it's not like I give a shit either. SUPPLY ZONES OMG 97% GAME OF THE YEAR. I'm still pissed that I picked up Ahriman's Gift out of the bargain bin because of the insanely positive word-of-mouth. It's the most overrated-by-its-ultrawhorish-fanboys game since System Shock 2.
Do not pick up the new Axis and Allies game. An RTS from the makers of Kohan. Kohan with WWII skins. There are supply zones, and units must heal up to full strength in them. |
