| It was better than I remember, they've actually added some nice touches, like your Steam icon shows up over your head so you can always see friends. It looks like a giant portion of the single player Half-Life 1 experience works, although the server crashed when we got to the helicopter fight with the hovercrafts. Before that we all had our own hovercraft (it just respawns them over and over at the beginning of the map) and we were all bouncing off each other and shit, it was pretty funny. It was also funny to see people screw with the map triggers, so we'd hit the button to open a gate or something and immediately two hovercrafts would be driving through it. When you reach the end point of a map it just freezes you there and starts a 30 second or so countdown to the map change, so the other players can catch up, or if they're stuck they can just wait it out.
Also they added the episode 2 effects, the dynamic soft shadows and blood and fire effects. I thought they were adding that stuff to HL2 and episode 1 but when I played them again I didn't notice any change. Still this game is more fun than Insurgency. I'm sure there is a giant pile of shitty custom maps out there as well. When Left 4 Dead comes out it should fix all this shit. I wonder if people will be making custom maps and campaigns for Left 4 Dead all over. |
