Sure, if it were the Introversion guys, or the fella who offered to suck OGF's cock (not gay, he just wanted to save his company) or a younger, poorer Will Wright immediately after Raid on Bungeling Bay. But now Will is financially successful, world famous, respected by millions and in his 50s - what's the point of anything if you're at that place than to be the best you can be at your craft? He basically submissively withered as a corporate whore and admitted he cared more about EA having a good quarter than furthering the art of computer games. That's fine, but it makes him more Seamus Blackley than Itagaki.
Call it George Lucas Syndrome. I read an interview shortly after Phantom was released where Lucas said he basically didn't care if the movie was any good as long as it made shitloads of money. For God's sake why? The dude was already a billionaire. This attitude might be understandable in someone who has always measured his success on a balance sheet, but George Lucas made THX-1138, a movie that was basically one long, contemptuous sneer at profit-driven culture. |
