Yeah, I would have never got that. It breaks mimesis, because you're on a completely different screen and interface. It's like going into the help screen on Bionic Commando and having to shoot the word "controls" there as the game's first boss. And it's completely unacceptable in Braid because he went out of his way to say, "Please don't use a walkthrough."
These guys gotta understand - they are making games with no manual, no real instructions, and no ability to read about their game while we are evacuating our last chicken korma. For dozens of years, gamers have lived in a reality where we would pick up on non-obvious things while crapping. Reality has changed: will the new breed of console programmers change with it?
