Personally, I don't think it would be difficult to create a superman game featuring all of his powers. They could just lift the control scheme wholesale from Zone of the Enders 2, with heat vision in place of tracking lasers and cold breath in place of the beachball of doom.
I'm thinking something like a freeform destructible Metropolis. Shit is happening all over the level: like giant robots are attacking, and your job is to smash the shit out of them all while minimizing damage to the city. If you spend too much time beating up on the boss robot with lex luthor inside, the remaining robots will crush half the city and you lose.
Meanwhile, some of the robots have hidden stores of kryptonite inside them (With a subtle appearance difference). If you get too close while fighting a big group of robots, you lose your powers and get stomped by his friends. You can either isolate that kryptonite robot so the national guard and/or Batman can take it out, or you can charge it at high speeds, smashing it to bits, and if it's safe, a nearby civilian will drag you to safety.
And if you lose the level, instead of losing a "life" you just trigger a patented Superman Deus Ex Machina, like spinning the earth backward or finding that special green crystal.
True, it's an entire game of escoting, but it's a hell of a lot better than those games where superman can get his ass kicked by an ordinary punk with a mohawk. |
